About 70% of our bodies by weight are composed of water and it makes up about 99% of the body’s molecules. So from a molecular standpoint, you are actually 99% water!

This is why HYDRATION is so fundamental to health and wellness. In particular, I would like us to explore the rationale for hydrating first thing in the morning. 

Drinking a large amount of water first thing in the morning has so many wonderful mental and health benefits. It supports your digestive system stimulating the body's natural detoxification process, enhances skin health and gives you a boost in energy. 

Some other advantages of drinking water first thing in the morning:

  • Drinking water on an empty stomach cleanses the colon and improves nutrient absorption. 
  • Helps with weight loss. Drinking 2 glasses of water first thing in the morning can boost metabolism by 24%!
  • Water first thing in the morning balances the lymphatic system. A stable lymphatic system helps build a strong immune system, balances body fluids, keeping us healthy while preventing illness.
  • Water first thing in the morning promotes production of new blood and muscle cells. 
  • Gives you glowing skin. Our skin is our largest detox organ and as you can see above plays such an important role in flushing out toxins and cleansing the blood. A natural by-product is clean, clear and vibrant skin (and aura!). 
  • Fosters more mental clarity, improves memory and proper neurological functioning. 


Another thing to consider is that the body is very acidic first thing in the morning, after cleansing all night. Some indications of this are brain fog, feeling tired and achy. 
You can further activate into the detoxification & life giving properties of water by alkalizing your fluids. This includes:

💦 Add freshly squeezed lemon (and/or lemon rind) to water. Despite lemons being acidic, the chemical reactions in the body increase alkalinity. Lemon water energizes the body, combats dehydration, stimulates metabolism and also helps with weight loss. It also quickly moves the body from an acidic state to an alkaline one. 

💦 Supplements such as Trace Minerals, pH Adjust or a 1/2 tsp baking soda rapidly shift pH in the body into an alkaline state which boosts the immune system and staves off dis-ease.
