HEALTHY HABITS DAY 26: LAUGH
The #1 cause that I see contributing to imbalance and dis-ease in the body, mind, and spirit is: STRESS.
It's estimated that 80-90% of health issues are related to stress.
Stress drains us of vital energy. It affects our sleep, our hormones, our relationships, our life.
But the good news? We are literally assembling a toolbox of resources, strategies, and ways of managing and mitigating stress through our HEALTHY HABITS!
All of these help channel stress, anxiety, and shift negativity. They move the energy through our body so that we can make more space and shift our thoughts and feelings.
Another incredibly healthy habit to add to our growing list of tools: LAUGHTER.
It might seem a strange one but it's potent medicine! Especially regarding stress.
When's the last time you laughed? Where you roared so hard your belly hurt and tears streamed down your face. Recall how you felt in that moment of pure joy and laughter.
Laughter creates positive changes in brain chemistry by releasing endorphins, and brings more oxygen into the body. Laughter releases anger, fear, guilt, and anxiety.
According to Dr. William Fry, an expert in humour physiology, laughter "may have benefits similar to exercise. Mirthful laughter is a total body activity that affects all the major physiological systems of the body.”
Laughter makes you feel gooood. Immediately! It offers both psychological and spiritual benefits, in addition to the physical effects.
Laugh therapy can include: reading cartoons/memes, watching funny movies or videos, telling jokes and thinking about amusing experiences. Or just simply laughing out loud. The brain cannot decipher real vs pretend laughter. The physiological effects are the same. I promise if you try it, it will spark more laughter and after you will likely feel more cheerful and find yourself smiling. Give it a go when you’re on your own. Or inspire whoever you are with to try it as well. Invite more laughter in your life.
