discipline

The notion of discipline can be a trigger for some. It may feel rigid and restrictive. And yet it can also be liberating and empowering, helping you achieve your goals and intentions. It’s all about perspective.

[Sidenote: Goals describe what you want to do in the future. They might focus on external accomplishments, like “be lighter by 15lbs” or "go on a vacation to X". An intention, on the other hand, describes how you want to feel. It is an internal focus, with more of a connection to yourself].

Think back to a time in your life when you were disciplined about something. Maybe eating healthy, exercising regularly, or having a consistent meditation practice. You started to notice changes over time, right? Physically, mentally, emotionally. And you felt GOOD! 💪🔥❤️

But it didn’t happen overnight. It took weeks, sometimes months before that level of dedication became more noticeable. Doing something consistently over time builds the habit, which gets RESULTS.

Now, recall a time (maybe now) where you might be wrestling with self-discipline. There’s no doubt that we are all aware of what it feels like when we lack it. When we're not necessarily following through with the things we say we're going to do. This can lead to frustration and negative self talk.

Cultivating discipline is what helps you achieve your desired outcome which ultimately means meeting your goals and manifesting your intentions.

That would feel amazing too, right? Instead of discipline being constricting, it actually feels fulfilling.

I have come to perceive discipline as a form of self-love. A devotion to one's physical, mental and emotional well-being. And like everything else, it's a practice. Discipline allows you to reap the benefits of your commitment and your steady effort.
